Glentanner Park is your home for the first-ever Aoraki Mt Cook Marathon!

On April 13, athletes from around the world will push themselves to the limit against the dramatic backdrop of New Zealand’s highest mountains.

“We are so excited about this event,” Glentanner Park marketing manager Kate Ivey said. “Not only because many of us are entering, but because of the motivated and energetic people it will bring to our region and the buzz this will create.”

Glentanner Park is proud to sponsor the Glentanner Half Marathon, a 21.1-kilometre road course that begins right here at Glentanner Station.

The half marathon is just one of four events that will take place on April 13, along with a full marathon, 10km and 5km. The variety of courses means athletes of all ability levels can enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Aoraki Mount Cook region.

The Aoraki Mt Cook Marathon is expected to attract runners and walkers from all corners of New Zealand and around the globe, according to event director Adrian Bailey of Queenstown-based sporting events company ActiveQT.

“It’s an area where people will want to travel to be part of something special,” he said. “With the beauty of Glentanner and the national park as point-to-point locations, there’s huge potential for this event to grow each year, and build to several thousand participants.”

Marathon participants will travel along the shore of Lake Pukaki on scenic Mount Cook Road (State Highway 80), through Glentanner Station and up the Tasman River valley into Aoraki Mt Cook National Park, with the snow-capped peak of Aoraki Mount Cook guiding their way to the finish at the Hermitage Hotel.

“It’s quite possibly one of the world’s most scenic road marathons,” Mr Bailey said.

It’s also an opportunity for event participants, their families and friends and spectators to explore the region and try out other Mount Cook adventures.
