We Love Lake Pukaki

Lake Pukaki is beautiful – with its emerald blue colour and majestic Aoraki Mount Cook looking down on it, there is no better sight. In fact, when standing on the edge of Lake Pukaki (or out in the middle of it!) there is no place I would rather be!

Yet, very few people utilise the lake. We would like to give our guests and friends of Glentanner a big heads up! When you stay here (in the warmer months), bring your walking shoes and camera … but also bring your togs (or your boat, or your kayak, or your paddleboard etc!).

“Isn’t it freezing” you ask? Well its no spa pool, but from our own experience we find it much warmer than Lake Tekapo, Lake Rutaniwha and Lake Wanaka. Lake Pukaki is relatively shallow in comparison, so the sun really warms it up. There is a beautiful top layer (and around the edges of the lake) that feels like a relaxing bath. And on a beautiful 25-30 degree Celsius + day there is nothing better than a refreshing dip.

Staff and family of Glentanner have really made the most of the lake this summer. We absolutely love it down there, and we know you will too!

So, now that I have introduced Lake Pukaki to you as a recreational haven, I expect you guys to make the next move. Remember though, safety first! Oh, and bring your fishing rod too (or you can hire one from our reception)!
