If you are a hunting or fishing enthusiast, or just want to have a go, the Mount Cook region is the place to come! With world renowned scenery as your backdrop you will fuel that desire to be in the outdoors, doing what you love the most!

Fishing

Glentanner Park is located at the head of Lake Pukaki - walking distance to the mouth of the Tasman River. A great place to try your luck at trout fishing!

Rods and lures are available for hire at reception.

$30 day hire for spin rod and lure

You may fish in Lake Pukaki any time, however you may only fish in the Tasman River from November 1st through to April 30th each year.  You also need a fishing license. Licenses can be purchased at Glentanner Park reception or online through Fish and Game New Zealand.

Hunting

Glentanner Station is famous for Tahr hunting. Tahr are native to the Himalayan ranges of India and Nepal, and were introduced to New Zealand for hunting! The Southern Alps are an ideal habitat for them.

There are also great opportunities for Tahr and Chamois hunting in Aoraki Mount Cook National Park.

All hunters require a hunting permit, which can be obtained from the Department of Conservation website: www.doc.govt.nz/hunting
