Explore the Stars

Glentanner Park is your home to exploring the spectacular stars of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve.
The Mount Cook region's gold-rated skies are almost entirely free of light pollution, and draw visitors from all over the world. Enjoy a nighttime stroll from your Glentanner cabin or campsite and view glittering constellations from the quiet shores of Lake Pukaki (try to avoid the main buildings, looking at your phone, and vehicle headlights as your eyes can take up to 30 minutes to adjust to the night sky). We like to say the area is one of the best stargazing sites on earth.

Want a closer look, and to learn more about the night sky?
Our staff can help you book your professional guided tours, departing from nearby Aoraki Mt Cook Village (an easy 20 minute drive from our campsite).
